Lana Del Rey | “Ride” (acoustic)

“This is My City” - Timothy Victor

‘Cause this is my town, this is my city
Through my eyes it looks so pretty
This is my town, this is my city now

These are my people, this is my song
Dirty streets where I belong
This is my town, this is my city now

“Can’t Help Falling In Love” - Ingrid Michaelson

Completely, utterly, astoundingly beautiful.

This song makes me feel so many emotions. Ingrid’s covers are perfect.

Um, Scott Hoying (of Sing-Off winning group Pentatonix) is ridiculous.

I have no idea who Scott Hoying is, but I agree with the above. Ridiculous. Also, this is one of my favorite songs.

“Swimming” by Florence + the Machine

These are not books, lumps of lifeless paper, but minds alive on the shelves. From each of them goes out its own voice… and just as the touch of a button on our set will fill the room with music, so by taking down one of these volumes and opening it, one can call into range the voice of a man far distant in time and space, and hear him speaking to us, mind to mind, heart to heart.
Gilbert Highet, a Scottish-American classicist, academic, writer, and literary historian

“My Country Tis of Thy People You’re Dying” - Buffy Sainte-Marie

HOW TO: Take Over Thailand - Tyler Oakley
Music: “Animal Arithmetic” by Jónsi

So, I went to Thailand… and made a video about it! Check it out!

“I get a lot of mail from people who tell me that I make them really happy to be themselves, and really comfortable with who they are, which I love,” she says. “I would hate it if someone was, like, ‘I wish I was you’ because I’m as insecure about myself as the next person.” In what way? “Just that I’m not good enough — in my music, in my relationships, and that I’m never going to be brave enough to tell someone how I feel.” It’s an illuminating admission for someone whose songs speak so plainly and powerfully, but for Adele, as perhaps for her audience, songs are capable of scaling mountains beyond the limits of regular speech.
A few nights earlier, in Brussels, a young gay kid thanked her for giving him the strength to come out. “He fancied someone at school, but he wasn’t out. And he listened to ‘Someone Like You’ and came out to his best friend and then to the boy he fancied, and it turned out that he was gay as well, and now they’re together — he’s like 15. I had to leave so I didn’t burst into tears.”

The first step — especially for young people with energy and drive and talent, but not money — the first step to controlling your world is to control your culture. To model and demonstrate the kind of world you demand to live in. To write the books. Make the music. Shoot the films. Paint the art.

I wish nothing but the best for you too.
